Places to Visit in France During the Fall

FRENCH RIVIERA

The weather was still good and the sea was still warm enough to swim at sunset. The best part was that most of the tourists had already left, so at a quieter time the best beach, quaint hilltop I was able to enjoy the village of Nice.

BURGUNDY

Visiting France in the fall gives you the chance to witness the grape harvest. Burgundy is our top pick with vibrant cities such as Dijon and Beaune.

BORDEAUX

Bordeaux is also a great option for enjoying vintage fruit. It’s still a great place for autumn landscape photography.

PROVENCE

Provence is a great option if you’re looking for sunshine and fresh rosé wines. But once autumn passes, it becomes clear why the region has fascinated so many artists over the decades and centuries.

DORDOGNE

The Dordogne is known for its hills and valleys and dramatic scenery, making this region a dream to drive. Later in the year,  the light floods the landscape of  Périgord, accentuating the yellows, reds, oranges, browns, and remaining greens of the landscape, creating great photo opportunities.

THE BASQUE COUNTRY

Its fascinating culture and cuisine attract most of the year, but the region’s lights and colors take center stage during the fall season. The mountains are full of beautiful hiking trails with incredible light for photographers.

NORMANDY

The scallop season starts in October. We promise this will be one of life’s greatest pleasures. You’ll also enjoy stunning coastal scenery that has inspired local artists such as Claude Monet.

LOIRE VALLEY

Autumn is still sunny and not very windy, making it perfect conditions for a hot air balloon ride. As you soar peacefully over the Loire Valley, you can imagine enjoying incredible bird’s-eye views and panoramic views.

PARIS

If it’s your first time in France and you’re traveling a long way, we recommend taking a layover tour in Paris. However,  Paris is not particularly recommended in the fall, as it often rains.
